Anthem Showcase and Music Meetup College Representatives

 

OUR MUSIC REPRESENTATIVE PROGRAM IS DESIGNED TO EDUCATE AND DEVELOP while providing real world music experience. WE WANT TO DEVELOP YOUR UNDERSTANDING OF THE MUSIC INDUSTRY AND EXPAND YOUR NETWORK THROUGH WEEKLY ASSIGNMENTS AND ALLOWING YOU TO COORDINATE OUR REAL SHOWS.

Assignment #1 - Band Discovery

Goal: To develop your digital scouting skills. While the industry used to rely on word of mouth and attending shows religiously, we now have an incredible tools that aid us in our search for great acts and allow us to connect with them directly while gauging their cultural impact. 

Action: Take to Instagram and look for a band that you would like to feature in one of our upcoming showcase cities (listed below.) 

1) Listen to their music on whichever platform they host it, find a song that you like - take a screenshot. 

2) Reach out to them and ask if they would like to be featured on A) our social media B) Our spotify playlist 

3) Send (to kevinwright@rmeworldwide.com) an image of the artwork for the single you chose along with a short bio of the act include:

  • Where they are from
  • The title of the song
  • Where to find their music

4) Send me their link if their music is on spotify

Featured Cities: LA, Chicago, San Diego, St. Louis, Orlando, Phoenix, Charlotte, Austin, Salt Lake City, Denver, Cincinnati, and Vancouver.


Assignment #2 - Live Show Recap

Goal: To learn how an industry professional watches a live performance. While entertaining, shows provide valuable opportunities to evaluate acts on several platforms including but not limited to musicianship, songs, crowd engagement, stage presence, and lifestyle marketing. 

Action: Attend a live show in Los Angeles (link below.) After the show we will help you create a recap of the performance and discuss with you what you saw to gauge your evaluation and grown your ability.

  3. Submit your recap to be added to our newsletter

ASSIGNMENT #3 - BAND DISCOVERY PART 2

Goal: To further develop your digital scouting skills. We will drill down on the scope of this assignment to create a strong Spotify playlist with your peers.

Action: Take to Spotify/Instagram/Facebook/Soundcloud and look for 3 bands/artists that have music recently (last 2 months) distributed to the major digital service providers (DSPs - Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon, Tidal.) 

1) Listen to their music on spotify, find your favorite songs for each.

2) Send me a link to their single you chose.

3) Send (to kevinwright@rmeworldwide.com) an image of the artwork for the singles you chose along with a short bio of the act include:

  • Where they are from
  • The title of the song
  • When their music was released

*Tips - you can search on Spotify or Billboard.com for recently released music.


ASSIGNMENT #4 - PRE-SHOW COORDINATION PART 1

Background: RME's Anthem series is unique in that we're attempting to create an original event that gives the creative music community what it needs. Not just a chance for live acts to perform on stage or connect with industry representatives but an evening that will bring their hometown community together and develop collaboration that will genuinely strengthen a local scene. 

Goal: To learn the early stages of growing and planning a performance and networking event. There are two types of talent important to live shows: performers and producers.

Action: You will be tasked with scouting production resources. You will help us find the key local industry representatives in our target markets.

1) Find the local music stations in your assigned market. Pop, Urban, and Alternative.  

2) Search for independent labels, recording studios, and music programs.

  • Identify their representatives and learn their style.

3) For each individual you identify send (to kevinwright@rmeworldwide.com) the following - Aim for at least 3. 

  • Their title and where they are from (their market)
  • Their station or genre (where applicable)
  • Their social media links
  • Their contact information

ASSIGNMENT #5 - ALBUM REVIEW #1

Goal: To develop your understanding of recorded music and teach some of the metrics used to evaluate new releases. 

Action: Choose an album that debuted in the last 4 weeks (from the date you begin this assignment) 

1) Listen to their music on whichever platform they host it, find a song that you like - take a screenshot. 

2) Visit rmepresents.com/review and complete the review form presented to you.

 


ASSIGNMENT #6 - PRE-SHOW COORDINATION PART 2

Background: RME's Anthem event series is unique in that we're attempting to create an original event that gives the creative music community what it needs. Not just a chance for live acts to perform on stage or connect with industry representatives but an evening that will bring their home-town community together and develop collaboration that will genuinely strengthen a local scene. 

Goal: To learn the middle stages of growing and planning a performance and networking event. We need to add to our secured talent by identifying support roles and preparing to fill them.

Action: You will be tasked with scouting production resources. You will help us find local promoters, photographers, and off the stage event attendees. 

1) Identify local event producers. We are looking for club/lounge promoters, photographers, and DJs.

2) Send (to kevinwright@rmeworldwide.com) an image of the artwork for the single you chose along with a short bio of the act include:

  • Their city
  • Their line of work and where they most frequently appear
  • Their contact information including social media handles
  • Examples for their work (where applicable)

ASSIGNMENT #7 - RESEARCH PROJECT #1

Background: There is more to fame and stardom than we frequently realize. More often than not our favorite acts trip, fall, and stumble in to major success. Example: The band Phoenix has more ties than we may realize - Frontman Thomas Mars had two major connections that helped break his band: 1) His wife Sofia Coppola is an award winning film director and 2) His brother is one of two members of the ground-breaking dance group Daft Punk.

Goal: To develop your artist research skills and reveal the path to and from musical stardom. 

Action: Use the internet and my resources to learn more about an act that you are already familiar with. Look for trends, insight, or interesting anecdotes that may not have been heavily publicized. 

1) Identify an artist or band you would like to learn more about. Choose a modern act (post 1970) with major appeal. 

2) Email me your artist choice and I will provide you with their sales numbers. 

3) Create a one page research paper highlighting their background including:

  • Where they are from, where and when they got started.
  • Their label affiliations, executives, major singles, and best selling album.
  • Where they are now and your analysis of their career. 

4) Send me your paper for review and feedback.


ASSIGNMENT #8 - PRE-SHOW COORDINATION PART 3

Background: RME's Anthem event series is unique in that we're attempting to create an original event that gives the creative music community what it needs. Not just a chance for live acts to perform on stage or connect with industry representatives but an evening that will bring their home-town community together and develop collaboration that will genuinely strengthen a local scene. 

Goal: To learn the final stages of growing and planning a performance and networking event. We need to power our events by finding a headliner. We're looking for a very specific type of act and we're trusting you to help us find them. 

Action: You will be tasked with scouting production resources. You will help us find local promoters, photographers, and off the stage event attendees. 

Take to Instagram and look for a band that you would like to feature in one of our upcoming showcase cities (listed below.) 

1) Identify local talent that has a developed following. We want to bring one act to our shows to cap the evening with a strong performance. 

2) Reach out to them and ask if they would like to be featured at our event 

3) Send (to kevinwright@rmeworldwide.com) an image of the artwork for the single you chose along with a short bio of the act include:

  • Where they are from
  • The title of the song
  • Where to find their music
